PTCL gives everyone call waiting
PTCL seems to have turned on Call Waiting for everyone. There is general confusion as to why we now suddenly get beeps during calls and why internet dialup connections fail even more quickly than usual.
Apparently if you hear the beep you can dial 'flash' followed by a 1 to get the call that is waiting.
Don't know how to turn this facility off. It remains to be seen if PTCL charges us for this.

PTA threatens Ufone over its bad service, although I would say that it is much better than that of Mobilink.

Govt to beef up IT security training: Leghari
Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has called for efforts to secure information being stored and processed through information technology to ensure accuracy and transparency in the transactions.
With the IT growing Information and Network security is becoming increasingly important, however there is a growing realisation that Pakistani security resources are very scarce. At the moment there are only 2 companies specialising in IT security, PakCERT a security research company and Xnet Solutions a manufacturer of hardware firewalls. This is clearly not enough, although many consultancies do work in the security field

i highly doubt that claims made by the anonymous guy are factual. i work for an offshore company and we have our offices in khi, isb and lhr. recently we hired the services of pakcert and they are just too damn good and really know their stuff too well. i have seen their client list and they have pretty much all the big names there. regarding expertise and professionalism, multiple ccie/cissp/cisa certified people in one organization is not a joke and not at all common in pakistan.

we had the same concerns reagarding certs being non-profit but even international certs like aus-cert charge people for services and training to cover their cost. i think its ok for pakcert to charge for its services too as they are providing free alerts and advisories to the pakistani community.

These frustrated posts are made by Muhammad Faisal Rauf Danka (nickname RSnake from the GForce hacking group) who used the domain attitudex.com for web defacements with email address like root@attitudex.com and gforce@attitudex.com. Muhammad Faisal Rauf Danka can now be contacted at mfrd@attitudex.com

Its sad that he is unable to secure a job and posts crap like this on websites and forums that carry mis-guiding information about pakcert. i feel sorry for you faisal.

Anybody with access to google can easily figure out that there are real certified professionals working for pakcert.

Just to add that the accused hacker dr nuker is Misbah Khan and NOT Qazi Misbahuddin Ahmed (two different people with two totally different names and identities) so I guess its time for mr. anonymous (Faisal - Rsnake of GForce) to get a reality (and insanity) check.

A friendly advice Faisal, its high time that you grow up and start working on your own career instead of wasting your time searching and posting bullcrap. Your frustration will automatically end once you secure a permanent job. Try a search engine this time to search for your own career instead of being jealous looking at others. It takes more than just jargons from certification books to secure a well placed position.

Comparision of mobile call rates
The PTA's own site at www.pta.gov.pk doesn't usually work, so it is good to see that they have arranged for a mirror at http://pta.ire-s.com/index.php - this is not particularly fast, but it does work.

There is a good comparision of
prepaid tarrifs on http://pta.ire-s.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=542 and
postpaid tarrifs on http://pta.ire-s.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=542

ZTE to setup R&D center in Pakistan
ZTE, China's largest publicly traded telecommunications equipment maker, said it will set up a research and development center in Pakistan to serve the South Asian market.

ZTE's involvement with Pakistan dates back to 1998, when it won its first foreign equipment order there, worth US$95 million (HK$741 million).

Two years later it opened a manufacturing facility there, its first outside China, which supplies telecom switching equipment to local customers. Last month, ZTE said it began production of code division multiple access equipment at a plant in Haryana, India, its first in that country.

Mobilink warned
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat [no, I don't know what that means or does, I just blog here - BP.], on Tuesday asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to initiate strict action against mobile companies that are offering poor services to their clients. Later, the PTA issued show cause notice to initiate proceedings against Mobilink, based on the result of a survey conducted recently by the authority.

Mobilink was forced to give its subscribers Rs50 million last year after it was found to have provided sub-par service. The service levels have gone downhill since then and the PTA is now threatening cancelation of the licence.

Mobilink gets another area code
Mobilink has started using 0301 in addition to its 0300 area code. There is a press release pretending to be a "Special Report" about this on the Pakistan Times website but it is vomit inducing so you are recommended not to click on this http://pakistantimes.net/2005/04/02/top10.htm link.

The Pakistan Times used to be one of the Premier newspapers in Pakistan before being destroyed/nationalised by convicted murderer/Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

WLL to be restricted to single cell mobility: Awais
Speaking at the Telecommunication Investment Conference organised by the CFA Association of Pakistan Mr. Leghari said "The ultimate success of the policies lies in the fact that the consumer is spoilt for choice". He also talked about number portability and lowering prices.

1 Comments:

There was some question whether CDMA WLL requires soft hand offs between adjacent cells to maintain quality of service. So I am wondering how the single cell restriction affect Companies like Telecard and their business plans.

Does anyone have any experience with Telecard's GO CDMA WLL phones?
